Why give to Girl Scouts?

  • One in every five children in Oklahoma lives in poverty.
  • Nearly 1/4 of Oklahoma girls never graduate from high school.
  • Oklahoma incarcerates more women proportionally than any other state.
  • Oklahoma ranks in the bottom 10 in the nation for births to teens.
  • Fewer than 15% of Oklahoma girls complete four or more years of college.
  • Oklahoma ranks in lowest 5 for the status of women based on economic, health care and social issues.
  • Single women head nearly half (45.3%) of all poor families in Oklahoma.

GS-West serves more than 12,000 girls through a variety of delivery methods - troops, in-school programs, outdoor education opportunities, juvenile incarceration, housing sites and many other ways. That is more than 1.8 million hours of informative, insightful and life-affirming programming directly to girls. More than 3,500 adults provide mentoring, support and encouragement to make it all possible.

  • Pledges. A pledge is a promise to give a certain amount of money over a select period of time. If you would like to make a larger gift to the Girl Scouts, but it would strain your budget to make the gift all at once, a pledge is a good option.
  • Matching Gifts are often possible through employers who have matching gift programs. Usually these programs match a donor's gift dollar for dollar, doubling your support for Girl Scouts! Find out if your employer has such a program by contacting your Human Resources department.
  • Gifts of stock can be transferred from your account to Girl Scouts. Contact the Fund Development Director for more information.
  • Planned Giving, as its name suggests, requires planning. The term often refers to the donation of cash or other property in exchange for an income, usually provided after the asset is put into a charitable trust. At some point, not necessarily immediately, the charitable organization you choose receives the asset. Planned gifts are often assumed to be deferred gifts. In other words, the donor parts with the asset today to receive the income and tax benefits, while the actual gift of the asset donated is deferred for a period of time, often the lifetime of the donor. The use of planned giving techniques has grown dramatically in recent years, benefiting thousands of charitable organizations, such as ours. Each type of planned gift carries its own complexities, which are best negotiated by your attorney, accountant or other professional advisor.
